New Post Finally!

Wow, it has been a while since I have posted on here. Sorry about that but this school year ended kind of rough and it is taking me a while to get situated. Plus I have not had a steady internet connection. So, quick overview, I know have the new Justice album † and also saw Alison Krauss and Union Station with special guest Toni Rice in concert last weekend. First off, the concert was amazing. Great performance from Alison and her whole band. The dude who was the singing voice for George Clooney in 'O Brother Where Art Thou played mandolin and sang some tunes which was cool. The slide guitarist was just as impressive. Some good ol amerrrcan music.

Next big item, †. It officially comes out July 10th, but it was leaked onto the internet about a week ago. The album is insane. Some of the songs have been out for a while now like D.A.N.C.E., Let There Be Light and Waters Of Nazareth but the rest are all new. Some standouts are Genesis and its transition into Let There Be Light, and New Jack. I cannot stop playing this album, which is a nice break from my usual depressing crap. And hey, it keeps me awake on my long sojourns from VA to ME. So, I am putting up New Jack for its crazy cool break down and general catchy-ness.

Tereu Tereu Set to Play Woodstock After Release of First E.P.

Tereu Tereu are a local band from Fredericksburg, Va/The University of Mary Washington; and they are about to release their debut E.P. Feline Ambition. The first single (the one song that Ross sent me) Furwinked (The Lion/Bear Song) is the first indie rock song I have heard in a while with a Vibraphone. That is not so bad, because this band makes it work well.

From the bands drummer: "Tereu Tereu have been together in its current incarnation since about September of 2006 playing whatever it is we play (usually pop indie type rock). We recently recorded our debut 3 song E.P. Feline Ambition with Jason Caddell (Dismemberment Plan) and mixed it with Devin Ocampo (Medications, Beauty Pill) which should be ready for consumption any minute now. Tereu Tereu are Ross Marshall (drums, percussion, vocals), Matt Bradshaw (trumpet, keys), Ryan Little (vocals, guitar), and Adam Bray (bass)." They aren't too bad live either, so check em out. Buy the E.P., go to a show, stalk Ross on facebook, whatever it takes. Know this band.

Plus Move(ing) on up....to the east side.

For all of you who read this blog regularly I'm sure you know of Plus Move. (They were in the first post). In case you are wondering why I know about/love this band it's because a friend and band mate from high school is one of the members. I have sort of kept track of their progress since they started up last July.

Well, there is a cool new development for them, an article in The Phoenix, which is a New England arts and entertainment magazine/newspaper based in Portland/Boston/Providence. They also had their first show last weekend that was apparently off the hook (sorry I couldn't drive up to Boston to see it). So, in an attempt to continue spreading the good news that is Plus Move here is the article and an older song from Plus Move, Live It Up. Be sure to check these guys out before they become the next Justice.

Another day down.

Today I will be featuring two indie artists that I have been playing a lot lately. Walker Kong and Laura Veirs. If you have heard of either of them (Besides my friends who read this) then congrats. From what I can tell these artists are still pretty unknown to a lot of music snobs. Maybe I am wrong, it doesn't really matter. Both of these artists have put out recent albums. Laura Veirs Saltbreakers and Walker Kong's Deliver Us From People.

Pink Light by Laura Veirs is a pretty catchy simple guitar tune. The lyrics are really what make this song standout:
" Sorry I was cruel, I was protecting myself
Drifting along with my swords out flying
Tattering my own cells and I tattered yours, too
Took you and rocked you around me like a spell"

Also, since I'm a drummer the clapping polyrythms are pretty hip. It may not mean much to anyone else, but it's nice to hear something like that in an already cool song.

Andy Warhol And The Honey Bees by Walker Kong is the next song. The intro drums hearken back to the intro from I Feel Free by Cream. I'm sure you all know you it.... Anyway, the rest of the song builds off this beat with some lilting guitars and the lead singer bringing the song home perfectly. I would like to give props to the Glorious Hum for turning me onto this song. That is all for now, it's dinner time.

Ok, I know there hasn't been a post since Sunday but I have been a little busy. I am finishing up some reflections for my Kierkegaard class, which I also wrote a paper for last night, this afternoon so I should be able to post something of importance this evening before the office. Word.

Sunday Post to Distract Myself

Well, I have not posted in a while, but it doesn't really matter cause no one reads this. Ok, on to the music cause I do not feel well right now and I need something to keep my mind off things. I downloaded Donovan's "Catch the Wind" this week cause I could not keep it out of my head. It's from the GE commercial that airs during The Office. I know that is specific, but again, no one reads this. I will not be uploading it because like a good boy, I purchased the song from iTunes. Yesterday I went to DC with my girlfriend to hit up some galleries and just get off campus. That was the big set-up, here is the story. So, you know all those street vendors that sell hot dogs and soda and stuff? Yeah, well, they also sell egg rolls. Is it me or does that not fit at all? Granted, all the workers of these stands are Asian, but still, it is a tad bit odd.
Menu: Hot Dog, Polish Sausage, Vienna Sausage, Soda, Chip, Ice Cream, Egg Roll. Ok, enough of that story, it is not and did not go anywhere.

Back to music: I got that Amy Winehouse album which was a somewhat pleasant surprise. Her voice is different but the music is solid. Very reminiscent of Motown with its own updated twist. Ok, I have to admit, I really have no idea what is going on in music these days, both the indie side and pop. I never listen to the radio and rarely read mp3 blogs or pitchfork and whatnot. I just want to throw that out there in case for some reason she is really popular right now. Yes, I do generally know when albums are coming out, but I don't have a calendar or anything with this all mapped out. What else, oh yeah, this band I'm From Barcelona (who are from Sweden...no comment) is pretty neat. The album is called Let Me Introduce My Friends and features swede companions Loney, Dear. It is all fairly catchy indie pop that promises to keep you happy. The song Treehosue has a very Polyphonic Spree sound to it even with the main instrument being a banjo. I guess that is all for tonight because I just do not want to be sitting here anymore, my bed looks a lot more inviting.
